The band name
My mother used to refer to a "silent Martin" as a person who accomplished much but was very humble and without any ego. I often wonder how such phrases become part of our vernacular. We traced this saying back to Thomas Martin, a deaf mute prize fighter from NYC in the early 1900s known in the ring as Silent Martin.
